when claude takes the mouse

Anthropic just handed Claude the mouse and keyboard. The company's new "Computer Use" capability lets the model view a display, track a cursor, click buttons, and enter text directly.
No bespoke APIs. No sanitised sandboxes. Just raw, pixel-level manipulation.
For years, enterprise software has operated like a medieval walled city. If an application lacked an export hook, a modern webhook, or an army of consultants charging $400 an hour to wire an integration, your data sat stranded. Anthropic just vaulted the castle wall.
The moat is evaporating
Historically, software monopolies maintained their margins through inertia. Migrating off archaic infrastructure was simply too painful, expensive, and politically suicidal for senior leadership.
By operating directly on the graphical user interface, Claude navigates legacy on-prem software, arbitrates between three disjointed desktop clients, and populates fields in databases that have not seen an update since Obama's first term.
It is clunky today. It is slower than an API call. But make no mistake: it incinerates the traditional integration bottleneck.
Capital efficiency over digital demolition
At Green Daisy, we build AI-enabled ventures across sectors where technological change usually goes to die: legacy enterprise. Historically, the playbook required convincing an incumbent organisation to rip out core systems and adopt modern SaaS. Inertia won 90% of those battles.
Pixel-level agency upends the entire economic calculus.
Founders no longer need to spend $15 million in venture capital attempting to replace SAP or Oracle from the outside. Instead, you wrap the dinosaur in an autonomous agent that does not sleep, does not complain, and operates the interface identically to a junior analyst.
The immediate trade-off is surface-area risk. Desktop prompt injection moves from an academic curiosity to an existential enterprise vulnerability. Watching a hallucinating agent misclick an unbacked-up production ledger will induce cardiac events across IT departments globally.
The so what
We are crossing the Rubicon from generative novelty to utilitarian automation.
Text generation was the warm-up act. The real unlock is automated white-collar labour executing repetitive, screen-bound friction across the global economy. The distinction between human knowledge work and synthetic software execution has narrowed to the width of a cursor click.
The winners will automate the mundane plumbing before the incumbents realise their moats have drained. Which friction-heavy, seven-figure workflow are you handing over first?
